Thousands flocked with us to the 18th birthday of freestyle.ch on the Landiwiese in Zurich and defied the weather. A new, spectacular arena, women for the first time in the crossover session and impressive jumps in the qualifications, captivated the spectators. The Swiss were convincing: Elias Ambühl was elected crossover.champ by the audience, and the youngsters Kai Mahler and Pat Burgener showed all their class in the qualifications.

The world's only city big air

The new terrain layout proved its worth: The arena-shaped infrastructures of the four different sports disciplines, which are closely packed together, guarantee a witch's cauldron atmosphere and spectacle - all the more so at the cross-discipline show contest Crossover Session. Although the FMXers and mountain bikers could not start due to the wetness, this did not dampen the mood. Because freestyle.ch came up trumps with a sensation: As the world's only city big air, women were at the start with the men. And they flew into the hearts of the fans right from the start. Goosebumps! In the end, however, the ladies had to leave the throne of the crossover.champ to the men: Elias Ambühl convinced the audience in his retro costume, earned the most applause and was carried through the audience on a litter at the end.

Safe launch pad with Skitrax

After completion of the 32 m high freestyle jump in the middle of the week, approx. 60 sqm of SlopeTrax sliding mats were laid out on the more than 40 degree steep start ramp, on which the riders could slide if there should not be enough snow. But the mats also serve to give the snow a better grip - which was then produced by the ton in the nitrogen tent on Friday afternoon and distributed over the entire jumping area. Due to the heavy rain, the snow in the start area flowed away, but on the mats the riders were able to ride perfectly. 

freestyle.ch promised spectacle

Spectacle was not in short supply for the fans on this sensational Saturday. Europe's biggest freestyle sport event was opened already in the morning by the visibly moved OC president Erwin Flury: "It is a special moment for me that freestyle.ch has now grown up. Especially because the event has lost none of its freshness and carefree spirit. The striking changes this year are overwhelming." freestyle.ch, which was once founded as a showcase for new trend sports, has long since become a global lifestyle, he said. Spectacle at world class level on the final day

After the contest, the athletes of the Crossover Session had to prove their talent once again - not in the air, but on stage. The concert act of Saturday evening was themselves: Together with the band "Karaoke from Hell" the athletes showed their rock star qualities. It was the kick-off to the party night. But the Swiss Top Guns must not have gone to bed too late, because tomorrow, Sunday, it will be decided who will become freestyle.champ. The announced beautiful autumn day also invites the children to do active sports themselves in the Active Zone, the 3 to 5 year olds can even participate in a running wheel Grand Prix.
